Representing the spirit and talent of Pacific fashion, Apaula Viliamu Tilialo proudly takes the spotlight as the Face of Fusions 2027.

What inspired you to pursue a career in fashion modelling?

I never planned to become a model. My journey began by stepping outside my comfort zone and challenging myself in a space I never imagined belonging in. Along the way, I saw the lack of representation for plus-size women and diverse backgrounds, inspiring me to create more space for others to be seen and celebrated.

For me, modelling is about more than fashion. It’s about representation, confidence, empowerment, and breaking barriers. I want to challenge the idea that you must look or be a certain size to belong in fashion. If someone sees me and thinks, “If she can do it, I can too,” then I know I’m making a difference.

Sometimes, the dreams you never planned for become the purpose you never knew you needed.

What attracted you to the Pacific Fusion Fashion Show?

I admire how Pacific Fusion Fashion Show celebrates Pasefika people, our cultures, identities and stories through fashion. I’m proud to be part of a platform that showcases the beauty and talent within our communities.

Fashion gives me the freedom to express myself, have fun and make an entrance. I’m excited to bring my Pacific spirit, personality and a little sass to the runway, leaving a touch of sparkle and Pacific flair wherever I go.

How does representing your Pacific heritage influence your work and style as a model?

My Pacific heritage is at the heart of who I am as a model. As a proud Pasefika woman, I carry my faith, family, culture and traditions with me, inspiring me to be bold, authentic and unapologetically myself.

Modelling is more than fashion—it’s about celebrating our Pacific identity, beauty and diversity, creating space for others, honouring those who came before me, and inspiring future generations to believe they belong.

What was the most challenging moment in your fashion modelling career, and how did you overcome it?

One of the biggest challenges in my modelling journey has been believing I belong in the fashion industry. As a plus-size woman, I’ve faced moments of self-doubt, but I’ve learned I don’t need to change who I am to deserve a place in the room.

I model to challenge stereotypes, represent bodies like mine and inspire others to pursue their dreams. My biggest lesson is simple: trust your journey, take up space and believe you belong before others see it too.

In your opinion, what changes or improvements are needed in the fashion industry to better celebrate diversity and cultural identity?

I believe fashion should create more genuine opportunities for size, body, cultural and ethnic diversity. Our differences make us unique and should be celebrated, not hidden.

I commend Nora Swan, founder of Pacific Fusion Fashion Show, and her team for creating a platform where Pacific people can be seen, celebrated and represented through fashion.

True diversity is more than inclusion—it’s about having a voice, being respected and feeling empowered to be your authentic self.

What are your future aspirations within the fashion industry, and how do you plan to use your platform to make an impact?

My aspiration is to create spaces where not being selected doesn’t mean your journey ends. I want people to know that a “no” can simply mean not this time or not this opportunity. Keep showing up, learning, bringing your personality and believing in what makes you different.

For me, success isn’t just about what I achieve personally—it’s about using my platform to uplift others, create opportunities and remind people that one audition or one closed door does not define their potential. Sometimes another door is waiting to open, whether in fashion, the arts, entertainment, community or somewhere completely unexpected.
